Ice is not as thin as predicted.

I have avoided touching base with you on a few observations for a valid reason. My most dependable weather source talked about us being constantly under a warm ridge this winter. He talked about the end of Dec and the first half of Jan bringing us moderating temps. He talked about the last half Jan and first half of Feb being much above normal in temps. He advised me that snow-making hours would be scarce for most of January. Soooooooooooo, I am totally excited that none of that has come to fruition!
Do not get me wrong we have had a couple of rain events, including that nasty one on MLK Day. That event was especially frustrating as 4 inches of fresh powder that fell early that morning was ruined by several hours of rain. But generally speaking we have had snow on the ground most of the winter, have been able to make snow almost whenever we wanted and have had incredible packed powder conditions for a majority of the season. We literally have anywhere between 3 to 8 feet of snow on our trails and conditions are wonderful. We always hit this lull in traffic after MLK Day and many folks have missed a great opportunity to experience great conditions and virtually no lift lines. Super Bowl Sunday's have a tradition of low numbers, but they all paled in comparison to last Sunday's Bears vs Packers game. Frustrating on my end to see low numbers of tickets sold when conditions were so nice. Even more frustrating to see the Bears get run over.
In regards to Super Bowl Sunday..........great chance to ski and avoid the crowds(almost guaranteed!)............we even will give you a $15 lift ticket for the day if you donate to the local food pantry.
Whoa! I have rambled and gotten away from my reason for delaying this posting. The weather has been so kind to us (totally not what we were bracing for). I was almost gun-shy to put anything out there in fear of breaking our streak of weather luck. If they were wrong about so much of these past 4 weeks...........are they going to be wrong about a cold and snow February???
Let us hope they get that one right!
