Winter 2010-2011???????

What's it gonna be? Huge question and as a snow lover we always try to see the positives. It is way too early to put much validity in any forecasts. That being said, we are starting to get some sneak previews of some of the forecasts.
What seems to be a common thread is that we have seen a transition from a fairly strong El Nino to what has the makings of a significant La Nina event.
So what does that mean? Nothing for certain as there are always many other factors that play into the mix besides the Southern Oscillation. Last year was a fine example of that as El Nino favors drier and milder winters.....we got cool and snowy!
Craig McPeck is a Midwest Meteorologist and his take on the flip from El Nino to La Nina is this........"This winter will be a whole new definition to the word extreme. Last winter was extreme over the Mid Atlantic States and from portions of the Central Plains through the Southern Plains and Southeast. A major El Nino occurred but with the most rapid flip from a strong El Nino to a La Nina in recent memory, one has to note that the coming changes could be quite bizarre." Interesting tease there ......isn't it????
Farmers' Almanac says Cold and Snowy. Gotta love that forecast!
Old Farmer's Almanac............still waiting on that one.
Weather Bureau............says normal temps and slightly above normal precip.
So there ya go..........round one is complete............stay tuned for updates and they are released.
